Update - 11.05.06
I've been to see the Citizens Advice Bureau about the Half Mile of Art event in Sheffield - this is what they told me:

The mis-selling/poor organisation of the event - I was advised to contact the Local Trading Standards - which turned out to be a national helpline - they have taken the details of the event and will be passing this on to my local office (Bromley) - who may or may not decide to take up the case - I am still waiting to hear. I have told them that a number of exhibitors were involved in the initial complaint but have not given any names. I would advise you to make a complaint to your own trading standards departments (you must do this in the borough you live in rather than in Sheffield) - the more people who complain, the more likely you are to get some action!

The health and safety issues - I was advised to contact the Health and Safety Executive (not the right department but heyho!) - they told me that I should write to Sheffield council - Environmental Health department. I will include with the letter the list of exhibitors who signed the initial complaint letter but I think it would be really useful if you could also send me a supporting email that I could include - something very simple would do - just saying that you agree with the sentiments expressed - it would also be helpful if you could include full contact details - postal address/ telephone number in case they decide to take further action.

If you would like to read the letter to Sheffield council please email me and I will send you a copy.

Update - 12.04.06
In case you did not receive the email from Garry (Stroon Gallery) I thought I would leave an update here - just to let you know, Garry is still on the case and trying really hard on our behalf to see the Citizens Advice Bureau. As soon as there's any news we will pass it on.

If you haven't already please send me an email so that I can keep you up to date on developments.

Half a Mile of Paintings - Redrat Events
By now you should all have received an email with everybody's contact details on it - or a text to tell you where to email to get the list. If you haven't please contact me and I will email you out a list. Sorry but I cannot contact everybody by phone - too expensive - and as we all know we are somewhat out of pocket already!

The letter we delivered to the organisers (signed by 39 exhibitors) was met with a very negative (and quite abusive!) response - this means that we are going to have to take further action in order to resolve this matter. If you'd like to read the text of the letter again you can download it here.

Gary from Stroon Gallery has kindly offered to contact a solicitor in order to ascertain where we might go from here and I will do my best to keep you informed on developments. I intend to send out an email as soon as I have anything to report so please, if you haven't already send me an email to get further news or check back here.

Do please contact me if you have any suggestions to make.
